Calcot Manor hotel's own herd of cattle
News - A herd of alluring Aberdeen Angus cattle have settled into Calcot Manor’s pastures new, near Tetbury this summer.
A herd of 30 pure-breed Aberdeen Angus cattle have set up a rather stately home at chic Cotswold hotel Calcot Manor.
The bovine guests checked-in on Monday 14 June 2010, with the cows grazing in the Tetbury hotel’s adjoining meadow throughout the summer.
Calcot Manor’s chef-director Michael Croft aims to use the organic beef from the herd to provide for the hotel’s menus in about a year’s time.
Croft commented: ‘The decision to utilise our own land has been a crucial stage in the process of serving top quality beef on our menus.’
He added: ‘If an animal is raised well then we know that every part of it will be good, and grass-feeding cattle definitely enhances the flavour of beef, without resorting to chemicals.
‘Knowing where it has come from and what it has been fed reassures us that we can serve up not just the animal’s prime cuts but its humbler, cheaper ones too.’
Soon enough hotel guests may well be able taste the pride in Calcot Manor’s own flavoursome organic beef cuts, and enjoying watching the grazing herd in the meantime.
See Calcot Manor for more information.
