PhotoStroud Photography events 2009

Event ended

Until 28 April – Almost two years after Stroud played host to the inaugural PhotoStroud Festival of Photography, photography in all its glory will once again be celebrated at Words and Pictures 2009 at The Space, the Subscription Rooms, and Stratford Park in Stroud.

For camera-wielding fans, The PhotoStroud Festival of Photography in 2007 proved a true inspiration. Almost two years later the organisers of the inaugural festival have organised another, albeit smaller, event entitled Words and Pictures 2009 – showcasing the thought-provoking work of local photographers from across Stroud and the surrounding Valleys.

From Friday 3 to Tuesday 28 April 2009, photography fans can hot-foot it to one of four events taking place in Stroud at The Space, Stroud Subscription Rooms, and Stratford Park, for inspirational and thought provoking images taken on our doorstep.

Lives in a Landscape exhibition at The Space

Friday 3 to Tuesday 14 April 2009

A diverse collection of photographs from Stroud photographers Georgie Brocklehurst, Cyril Laffort, Helen Green, Sylvain Guenot and Fred Chance will be exhibited at The Space – showing each artist’s individual interpretation of their surroundings in striking detail.

French Connection at The Space

Wednesday 8 April 2009

There will be a live performance of the collaborative book French Connection created by Stroud poet Jeff Cloves and Romanian photographer Dan Hayon at The Space for one evening only. Members of the public will be able to enjoy Jeff perform his poetry while Dan projects his stunning photographs onto a huge screen.

Another Way Home at Stroud Subscription Rooms

Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 April 2009

An impressive collaboration of 77 photographers and poets all responding to the landscape of Stroud has culminated in the publishing of the new book Another Way Home. A book launch will take place on Tuesday 14 April 2009, when from 7.30pm members of the public can hear readings performed alongside live music, and when visual work will be on display for five days in a dedicated and diverse exhibition at the Subscription Rooms.

Hard Rain at Stratford Park

Friday 17 to Tuesday 28 April 2009

The iconic lyrics of Bob Dylan’s ‘Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall’ will be accompanied by a series of powerful and moving news and documentary photographs, at this outdoor exhibition on show in Stratford Park. Open to the elements – the exhibition, subtitled ‘our headlong collision with nature’, has been curated by Mark Edwards.
