Colesbourne Gardens Snowdrop Weekends
See one of Gloucestershire’s best collections of snowdrops at the Colesbourne Gardens Snowdrop Weekends 2010, in the Cotswolds.
The sight of snowdrops – one of the first flowers to bloom after the cold winter – is a welcome indicator that spring is right around the corner, and Colesbourne Park Gardens in the Cotswolds is renowned as one of the best places in the whole country to see impressive carpets of the glistening white flowers.
For the horticulturists, the snowdrop collection at Colesbourne Park originated in the plantings made by Henry John Elwes, and since the early 20th century a number of foreign varieties and hybrids have been introduced to the gardens. Today, Colesbourne is particularly associated with several snowdrop cultivars, including G.Colesborne, Galanthus S.Arnott, G.elwesii Carolyn Elwes and Galanthus Lord Lieutenant.
As well as getting the chance to see some of Colesbourne Gardens’ 250 varieties of snowdrop during the 2010 open days, visitors will also be able to enjoy the church and waterfall, as well as taking in a walk along the lakeside and woodland paths to see huge banks boasting a variety of winter plants. There will be stalls for plant lovers to peruse, ample parking is available and dogs are welcome on a lead.
Don’t miss this annual natural attraction in Gloucestershire’s great outdoors in 2010.
