Gloucester Through The Ages Live
20 April – More than 2,000 years of the city’s history will be celebrated in Gloucester over two days this April, and visitors can expect plenty to see and do during the two-day Gloucester Through The Ages Live.
Gloucester’s residents and visitors won’t need a DeLorean to travel back in time this April, when a weekend spanning more than 2,000 years of history will be sweeping the city centre – with Roman encampments, medieval knights, English civil war scenes, Victorian classrooms, Vikings, Nelsonian boats, and World War II military vehicles all adding to the atmosphere.
Gloucester’s transformation will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 April – the nearest weekend to St. George’s Day – and St. George himself will be making a horseback appearance, alongside Henry VIII and some of his not-so merry wives, at the event organised to show how periods through history have all played a part in the development of the city.
Many of the events will take place at Gloucester Cathedral and Gloucester Docks, but visitors to the city centre can also take part in the weekend’s demonstrations and hands-on activities too, which are set to include medieval circus skills, Roman military drills and archery.
Council Leader, Paul James, said: ‘We have a great story to tell and we intend to do that in the most imaginative ways possible. This is certainly a date for people to put into their diaries.’
