Highnam Court Spring Fair 2009

Event ended

26 April – Highnam Court Spring Fair 2009 will be welcoming visitors from far and wide, when the glorious Gloucester gardens are the setting for two days of festivities.

The annual Highnam Court Spring Fair is a firm favourite on the Gloucestershire events calendar, and the 2009 event is likely to be no exception when visitors once again flock to the private residence for two days of family-fun.

Raising funds for charities Gloucester Cathedral and The Pied Piper Appeal, musical highlights at the varied 2009 event will include performances by Cheltenham Silver Band, D’Arcy Quartet, Pillowell Silver Band, Gloucestershire Army Cadet Force Corps of Drums, music and stories with The Pied Piper and a number of jazz bands.

The two-day event will be hosting a display of classic and vintage cars, a circus skills workshop, medieval archery display and camp, sealed knot re-enactment, Lydney State Circus performance, maypole dancing and music with Highnam School, have a go archery, garden safari trail, butterfly trail for children and pottery for children – plus much, much more.

Green-fingered guests will be in their element at the Floral Marquee, including a Garden of Delight aimed at encouraging flower arrangers to have a go and enter the competition, while there will also be expert demonstrations, a gardeners’ clinic and stalls selling flower arranging accessories.

Highnam Court Spring Fair will also be hosting a mini Gloucestershire Stone Carving Festival this year, when up to 10 local stone masons will be competing by carving a ‘green man’. Judging will then take place on the Sunday, with the panel including Gloucester Cathedral’s master mason Pascal Mychalysin. All work produces will then be auctioned off at the end of the festival to raise funds for the nominated charities.

Visitors will also find an array of trade stands at this year’s event, with wares including everything from hand-crafted jewellery and homemade foods to plants and garden machinery.

Organised to raise money for two great causes, not only will you and your family be able to enjoy a day overflowing with fun, but you will also go home – probably exhausted, judging by the jam-packed schedule – with the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped two fantastic local charities too.
