While Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall may have given television viewers a taste for growing their own produce, budding green-fingered gardeners from across Gloucestershire are sure to enjoy meeting organic herb grower and author Julia Scott in person, during two seminars being held at Mill Dene Garden this summer.

Entitled ‘Herbs in the Kitchen and for Cosmetics’, Julia’s first talk on Saturday 21 June 2008 will introduce a wide range of herbs, covering their place in our modern diet, their uses, how to grow them and their seasons.

Then, on Saturday 5 July 2008, the experienced grower will return to Mill Dene Garden for a seminar entitled ‘Modern Applications of Old Philosophies’ – aimed at giving guests an insight into the approach of modern herbalists, how they view disease and the concepts behind prescribing herbs.

During both seminars guests will be invited to enjoy coffee on arrival, followed by a guided tour of Mill Dene Garden, including its herb garden, from creator and owner Wendy Dare. A ‘herby’ lunch will also be provided, after which Julia Scott will give her talk and invite questions from the audience – as well as signing copies of her specialist books.

For those interested in Cotswolds gardens – as well as the fascinating realm of herbs – these two Royal Horticultural Society seminars are definitive dates for the diary.
