Went along to Rise Helicopters on Saturday for the £20 ride. It was excellent and couldn't believe how cheap it was!...

With the weather warming up, it’s the perfect opportunity to sling your camera over your shoulder and get out in Gloucestershire’s great outdoors – taking some superb snaps along the way.

And if you’re planning a trip to Slimbridge Wetland Centre, there’s an even better excuse for you to carry-along your camera as the WWT Nikon national photography competition gets underway, with some great prizes up for grabs.

Organisers say: ‘With blossoming trees, blankets of bluebells and people enjoying the first warm days of the year, spring is a season when plants, animals and even humans leap back into life. Come along and photograph your images of spring whether it is a group of fluffy ducklings or people enjoying a walk by the wetlands and you could be our next winner.’

The competition aims to capture the variety of WWT’s nine centres, including Slimbridge in Gloucestershire, across three categories: ‘WWT Nikon Photo of the Year; WWT Nikon Junior Photo of the Year and WWT Nikon Digiscoping Photo of the Year.

Prizes to be won include a Nikon D60 digital SLR camera with 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses, or a Coolpix P5100 camera and a Fieldscope ED 82mm, as well as Travelite EX binoculars for the regional winners.

The judging panel, which includes wildlife photographer Chris Packham and editor of Bird Watching, Kevin Wilmot, is looking for variety, innovation and imagination, as well as technical accomplishment.

The main rule of the competition is that all photos submitted must have been taken at one of the nine WWT centres in the UK. For full terms and conditions visit wwt.org.uk Closing date for entries is Monday 8 September 2008.
