With the brand new decade comes a brand new chance to learn fresh skills, develop a creative passion and meet new people at the University of Gloucestershire, which will once again be offering the opportunity for adults across the county to get creative, with the launch of its latest series of All Age Learning evening and weekend Short Courses.

Promising to inspire the imagination from February 2010, from the one-day to ten-weeks, the courses are aimed at learners of all abilities, and will all be based at the Pittville Studios campus in Cheltenham.

Plus, as well as the creative courses below, from the New Year the University of Gloucestershire will be offering short courses in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Intermediate Adobe Creative Suite, and Web Design with Dreamweaver CS3.

Introduction to Digital Photography at the University of Gloucestershire

From Tuesday 2 February 2010

Once again this is set to be a highly popular ten-week course, which will see photography novices learn all the basics to taking great snaps and getting the best out of their compact or SLR digital cameras. A series of assignments will challenge students, with practical classroom sessions aiming to build confidence behind the lens.

This course costs £185.

Creative photography at the University of Gloucestershire

The creative photography ten-week course will allow keen photographers the chance to develop a personal style, confidence and improved technique in photography. Through regular assignments and practical sessions, students will learn how to improve their digital shots and push their creative ideas.

This course costs £185.

Oil painting at the University of Gloucestershire

From Wednesday 3 February 2010

This ten-week course aims to give artistic students of all abilities the chance to be introduced to a range of painting techniques and media, including surface preparation, oils, acrylic and watercolour paint. Participants will have the opportunity to try lots of different techniques and produce their own paintings.

This course costs £185.

Storybook illustration at the University of Gloucestershire

A seven-week course suitable for beginners, the storybook illustration course is aimed at those who want to develop their creative and practical techniques to produce a fun and exploratory narrative storybook. From making a storyboard, to making a handmade short storybook, the course emphasises experimentation and creativity.

Intermediate photography at the University of Gloucestershire

The intermediate photography ten-week course is aimed at those who own a digital SLR camera and are already familiar with the basic functions and wish to progress to a more advanced level. Through practical exercises course members will investigate the functions of their camera and learn new creative techniques, as well as work on post-production techniques.

This course costs £185.

Collagraph printmaking at the University of Gloucestershire

For complete beginners to those with some printmaking experience, the six-week collagraph printmaking course will see participants create stunning and sophisticated prints using a collage, painterly printmaking technique, where the image is composed from textured materials on a plate, which is carefully inked and printed through an etching press. As well as gaining an overview of collagraph printmaking students will work on their own prints.

This course costs £165.

Linocut printmaking at the University of Gloucestershire

Aimed at the complete beginner, this one-day course aims to explore the printmaking technique of linocut, with an overview, demonstration and chance for participants to create their own artwork from an image brought along to the workshop or from scratch.

This course costs £100.
