SoGlos.com is delighted to reveal that the National Trust has reached an impressive four million members, the first time since it was since founded in 1895.

Members will support the National Trust in continuing to care for 300 historic houses, 250,000 hectares of land and 700 miles of coastline spread across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In total the National Trust is reported to be visited by 90 million people each year, all helping to preserve and protect places of interest for our future.

In Gloucestershire the National Trust looks after many sites including Chedworth Roman Villa, Hailes Abbey, Snowshill Manor, Crickley Hill and the commons in both Minchinhampton and Rodborough.

Director general of the National Trust Fiona Reynolds said: ‘In England you are never more than 40 minutes away from somewhere looked after by the National Trust.

‘From the smallest sculleries and garden grottos to towering castle turrets and the wild expanses of the Lake District countryside, the National Trust enables everyone to enjoy these beautiful, intriguing, and exciting places forever.’

To mark the four-million members milestone, on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October 2011, the National Trust is asking visitors to contribute to a virtual time capsule by sharing their experiences via Facebook and Twitter.
