Christmas lights celebration at Gloucester Cathedral
Christmas isn’t complete without singing a carol or two. Gloucester Cathedral has just the ticket thanks to a special event celebrating the Christmas lights switch on.
Gloucester’s annual switching on of the Christmas lights is one of the most popular events of its kind in the south west, and this Sunday 20 November 2011 Gloucester Cathedral will be marking the occasion in true style.
The festive Christmas parade will enter Gloucester Cathedral’s West Door at around 5pm, and everyone is invited to come together in singing some favourite Christmas carols led by the Cathedral’s very own Youth Choir.
As we enter into the festive season, the Dean of Gloucester, The Very Reverend Stephen Lake, has also prepared a special Christmas message which we are delighted to share with SoGlos.com’s readers:
‘What really matters at Christmas is that we celebrate God, sharing himself with us. There is nothing that matters more than the simple, lowly fact that we worship a God who knows what it is like to be human. This is the gift of Christmas.
‘If you do nothing else this Christmas, return God’s generosity and visit him in one of our services. After all, Jesus is what really matters at Christmas, just as you really matter to him. May God bless you and your home this Christmas.’
The Christmas lights celebration event is free of charge, and the first event in a busy festive calendar for Gloucester Cathedral. Visit the website address below to find out more.
