The Cloths of Heaven Concert in Cirencester
Catch the Cantores Chamber Choir’s second concert of the spring 2012 season, when the local group perform at Cirencester Parish Church in the Cotswolds.
The established local Cantores Chamber Choir is continuing its 2012 season with another classical music treat, as it performs some of the most inspiring works from England’s magnificent 20th century musical renaissance.
The second Cantores event of the year will take place at Cirencester Parish Church, on the evening of Saturday 10 March 2012, entitled The Cloths of Heaven.
Organisers explain that for centuries English composers would take foreign names in the hope of making an impact in Europe, while in reality our islands has been awash with music all the time – and no more so than during the past 100 years, when choral music founded on traditions of the first Elizabeth prospered as never before.
Cantores’ spring programme, much of it reflecting a ‘sacred tradition that is the musical envy of the world’, gets underway with Charles Villiers Stanford – an Irishman steeped in the 19th century European traditions who transformed English cathedral music.
Via Vaughan Williams, Holst and Walton, audiences at the Highnam concert will be taken on a journey to composers of our own time, John Tavener, James Macmillan, Jonathan Dove and Howard Skempton.
Since its inception in 1991, Cantores has gained a great reputation for innovative and exciting programming, and for memorable performances in and around the Cotswolds. The choir’s aim is to perform music that is challenging and enjoyable, combining familiar favourites with works that are relatively new or not often heard.
Expected to be a popular Cirencester event in the heart of the Cotswolds, don’t delay in booking tickets for this forthcoming spring 2012 gem.
