Corinium MuseumCategory: MuseumsArea: CotswoldsPark StreetCirencester GL7 2BX Telephone: (01285) 655611 Corinium Museum in Cirencester is dubbed ‘the must-see visitor attraction of the Cotswolds’, playing host to one of the largest collections of Romano-British antiquities in the country. Corinium, Roman Cirencester, was the second largest town in Roman Britain, and the popular museum gives visitors the rare chance to experience life as a Roman, marvel at stunning mosaics of the day and visit a Roman garden. You can also come face-to-face with forensically reconstructed Saxon heads, trace a path from the Iron Age to the English Civil War and explore 18th and 19th century Cirencester – including a collection of historic photographs and a model of the town which lights up to reveal its history. All ages will find something on offer at Corinium Museum – with the hands-on activities proving particularly popular with children and school groups – while the venue also plays host to a fantastic programme of talks and workshops throughout the year. For more information call (01285) 655611, email museums@cotswold.gov.uk or visit coriniummuseum.cotswold.gov.uk directly. |
