The John Moore MuseumCategory: MuseumsArea: Tewkesbury41 Church StreetTewkesbury GL20 5SN Telephone: (01684) 297174 The John Moore Museum is nestled in a unique 15th century row of historic timber-framed buildings in the heart of Tewkesbury, which have all been in use since they were built by the monks of Tewkesbury Abbey. The museum was established in 1980 in memory of the writer and naturalist John Moore, and visitors will find a natural history collection housed over three floors which includes many creatures not usually seen in the wild. Visitors can find out about life in the countryside via the displays, read about John Moore himself and wander through the new cottage garden filled with traditional plants. Plus, just a few doors away is the beautifully restored and refurbished Merchant’s House, giving guests a glimpse into life at a Tudor shop and dwelling – including the chance to hear stories on special audio wands. Open from April to the end of October, call (01684) 297174, email curator@johnmooremuseum.org or visit johnmooremuseum.org directly for more information. |
