Book lovers in Gloucester, here’s your chance to talk about literature, freshen-up your reading habits with some new titles and meet some friendly new faces – when you pop along to the next meeting of Gloucester Waterstone’s reading group.

Held in the city centre bookshop on a Tuesday evening each month, the invitation to join Gloucester Waterstone’s reading group is open to all – providing you have read the monthly title, of course – with a warm welcome guaranteed.

Love it or loathe it, the meetings will give you the chance to share your opinions on the chosen book titles, as well as suggest books you think the group would enjoy reading.

On Tuesday 18 November 2008, Azar Nafisi's title Reading Lolita in Tehran will be discussed by the group. Ironically the book focuses on the experiences of a reading group, but as the title suggests one that met in Iran, where many of the books read by the group of women were forbidden works of Western literature.

According to Waterstone’s, ‘Nafisi’s account flashes back to the early days of the Iranian revolution when she first started teaching at the University of Tehran amid the swirl of protests and demonstrations’, as well as offering a portrait of the Iran-Iraq war from the inside.

Event: Gloucester Waterstone’s reading group meeting

Date: Tuesday 18 November 2008
