Gloucester residents are being encouraged to big up everything that's great about the city, as 'celebrate' has been revealed as the theme for the 2016 Carnival.

Gloucester residents will come together for its annual Carnival Procession this summer, with this year’s theme focussing on celebrating everything that’s great about the city as it marks the 80th anniversary of the annual event.

On Saturday 23rd July 2016 the city will once again be abuzz with floats and entertainers alongside live music, food and drink, culminating in the traditional Bob Wilson’s Family Funfair.

The exciting ‘celebrate’ theme is said to have been chosen because of the many inspirational milestones taking place in 2016, including the Queen’s 90th birthday, the 800th anniversary of Henry III’s coronation, and the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, all holding significance to Gloucestershire.

Councillor Lisa Noakes, Gloucester City Council cabinet member for culture and leisure said: ‘it is important that we continue to support events such as the Carnival that are great for the city and are such good examples of community involvement.’

What’s more, locals are encouraged to get involved with the July Carnival as it is one of many city events taking place this summer as part of SoMAC, Gloucestershire’s Summer of Music, Arts and Culture.
