If you’re looking for a rootin’, tootin’ way to kick start the weekend, why not take the family down to Cheltenham Town Hall to celebrate the arrival of midsummer with a good old barn dance?
Taking place on Friday 22 June 2012, the Midsummer Barn Dance promises an eventful evening comprising of music from folk rebels Mawkin, with dancing direction set to come from expert caller Phil Bassindale – so hoedown beginners need not worry about missing a few steps.
Fresh off the back of its appearance on ITV’s Ade in Britain and the recent release of latest album Crow, four-piece Mawkin will be interpreting traditional folk songs from the British isles and beyond, with singing duties shared between all members – a brave new direction set to be showcased to the Cheltenham audience.
With a whopping 150 UK festivals under its belt and having boasted support for the likes of Eliza Carthy, Billy Bragg and Mr Scruff, the ‘unconditionally mighty’ band, as described by Mojo, are sure to keep the barn dancers going for hours.
So dust off that cowboy hat, dig out your finest checked shirts and prepare for the liveliest hoedown in town.
