As the nation unites to celebrate the Queen’s 60-year reign on Monday 4 June 2012, Cheltenham’s St Mary’s church will be hoping to attract local families and friends alike to join its Jubilee Jamboree party, which will be launched by the Bishop of Gloucester.
Ringing bells will kick of the celebrations, after which visitors can look forward to taking part in a treasure trail within the church, browsing the many arts and crafts stall on offer, as well as enjoying a plethora of delicious eats – including a pig roast.
From a ukulele extravaganza to the sounds of Cheltenham-born composer Holst, St Mary’s promises to cater to a variety of musical tastes, even offering visitors the chance to try their hand at salsa dancing, too.
To keep the kiddies entertained, organisers have laid on a bouncy castle, storytelling by the loveable Punch and Judy, and the chance to get creative by making your very own Diamond Jubilee souvenir or crown.
While parents will be able to enjoy tours of the historical church and a Jubilee book signing, ending the day with a half-hour Thanksgiving service.
Organised by the Friends of Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, St Mary’s and St Matthews, and with proceeds going towards the Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum Fund, this special event will no doubt be one remembered for years to come.
Gina Wilson, chairman of the Friends of Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum, said: ‘This promises to be a splendid day out for the whole family and a fitting tribute to the Queen, whose championing of community spirit we are delighted to celebrate’.
