Lace up your running shoes, pack up a picnic and take the family along to Robinswood Hill’s Funfest this summer.

With the sun finally making an appearance for the summer, now couldn’t be a better time to explore the great outdoors, and on Sunday 1 July 2012 Robinswood Hill will be inviting locals of all ages to discover the beauty of the countryside on their doorstep, in its first Funfest event.

Featuring all the makings of a great family day out, including games, sports activities, food and fayre stalls, a bouncy castle and even an It’s a Knockout tournament, organisers hope to see scores of locals laden with picnics joining in the festivities.

Athletic types are sure to enjoy participating in the 2km fun run around the perimeter of Robinswood Hill from 11.30am, and more serious runners are welcome to register to take part in an additional – and gruelling – Athletics Club Hill Race event to the top of the hill and back, taking place on Saturday 30 June 2012 from 2.30pm.

Organiser councillor Colin Organ, cabinet member for housing, health and leisure, said: ‘There are very few cities in this country which enjoy the benefits of having a hill and countryside park within their boundaries. My objective is to raise the profile of Robinswood Hill as a place to both enjoy and care for, whilst promoting health, wellbeing and tourism at the same time.

‘The weekend is all about involving people and communities to join in and participate where they wish in a series of fun events. There is hopefully something for everyone and it should be a great weekend, come rain or shine!’
