Gloucester Waterways Museum is set to be taken over by swarms of swashbuckling pirates from Monday 27 August to Sunday 2 September 2012, when it launches a week-long celebration of pirates.
Staff at the museum will be playing the roles of villains of the high seas, dressed to the nines in Fancypants costumes that would put Jack Sparrow to shame, whilst supervising visiting scallywags as they make their own pirate accessories, including cutlasses, hats and eye patches.
Visitors will have the chance to win some loot – chocolate gold coins, that is – as well as learn a little more about the city of Gloucester, in a special treasure trail taking place throughout the week that will see kids hunting for hidden clues relating to the region’s canals and rivers.
What’s more, little ones can look forward to hearing some not so scary pirate-themed stories from the staff, with notorious buccaneers such as Blackbeard and Anne Bonny expected to make appearances.
Museum manager Doreen Davies said: ‘Children love immersing themselves in pirate stories and dressing up to find hidden treasure. We expect to be overrun with mini-pirates and look forward to welcoming them all.’
Argh, me matey!
