Westonbirt Arboretum Dog Days 2009

22 February – Canine pets of all shapes and sizes, and their owners, will be heading to Westonbirt Arboretum for the Dog Days 2009 weekend this February.

Now in its fourth year, the annual Dog Days return to Westonbirt Arboretum in February 2009, for another weekend of family fun complete with tail-waggingly happy pets.

As well as the opportunity to take the dog out in Gloucestershire’s great outdoors, Westonbirt will also once again be hosting events including a dog agility course, and the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Dog Scheme testing. On Saturday, there’s also the Friends of Westonbirt Dog Show, including ‘Dog most like its owner’, and on the Sunday there are working dog and ferret racing, arena displays and a dog trail through Silk Wood.

Dog lovers will also be able to lavish their pooches with a range of pet goodies for sale in the exhibitor marquee – including luxury beds, animal portraits and dog runs, just for starters.

Plus, once again the highlight of the Dog Days weekend is set to be the regional heat of Scruffts – the nation’s annual cross breed competition – taking place on Sunday 22 February 2009, and being judged by wildlife expert and presenter on The One Show and Coast, Miranda Krestovnikoff. Run by the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, the hugely popular Scruffts competition celebrates dogs in all their diversity – with entries judged on good character, health and temperament rather than their pedigree.

If you fancy giving your dog a spot in the lime light, entry into the Scruffts regional heat costs £1 per class on the day, with all money raised going to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust. The winner of the Westonbirt Arboretum Scruffts heat will also be entered into the final at The Kennel Club’s Discover Dogs event in London.

While Westonbirt Arboretum is a hugely popular day out for families with dogs all year round, with more than 4,000 people attending the event in 2008, and with this year’s weekend expected to attract even more pet-loving people in 2009, the two-day Dog Days event is not to missed by dog lovers from Gloucestershire and beyond.
