While dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition thought to have originated some 2,500 years ago, 2010 will mark the 13th year in which Gloucester Docks has played host to its own adrenaline-fuelled event held to raise money for children with cancer.

Taking place from 10am to 6pm, visitors at the CLIC Sargent Dragon Boat Regatta 2010 can expect to see up to 30 teams – each including rowers, a steerer and drummer – clad in bright fancy dress making their way across the Docks’ water in decorative dragon boats.

Plenty of cheering from the crowds and the rhythmic beating of the drums are certain to provide another fun day out the whole family this year, and there will also be a funfair, stalls and live music promising to provide plenty of alternative entertainment on the day too.

But if standing on the sidelines isn’t for you, charity CLIC Sargent is looking for enthusiastic teams of between 11 and 17 people to take part. Crews do not need any experience, only good teamwork, a sense of fun and £22 entrance fee per person. Businesses, friends, social clubs or pub teams interested in entering should contact Steve Markham on (01452) 724144 for an information pack.

With proceeds going to CLIC Sargent to help support children with cancer during treatment, in hostpital, at home and after treatment, this fun-filled event is not to be missed.
