If you want to steer the kids away from the television or are having difficulty prizing the PlayStation3 controller from their little hands this school half-term, give them an injection of fresh February air and the chance to spot a host of feathered wildlife at Slimbridge WWT’s Children’s Bird Watching sessions.

Expert wardens will be on-hand on Wednesday 18 February 2009 to give nature-loving little ones the chance to learn the basics of bird watching – including everything from how to peer through binoculars and identify species to exploring hides and Slimbridge’s grounds – ending with a demonstration of how birds are ringed for identification.

As well as the Children’s Bird Watching sessions, daily events are due to take place at Slimbridge throughout February which should keep children – big and small – entertained, including wild bird feeds seen from the comfort of a heated observatory; a fascinating flamingo talk; the chance to meet frogs, toads and other amphibians in Toad Hall; and the opportunity to get up close to the residents of Slimbridge’s famous Crane School.
