Cheltenham days out 2010

Sudeley Castle and Gardens

Expect to find: A magnificent golden castle, nestled within the countryside of Winchcombe near Cheltenham, which is brimming with history. The series of ongoing exhibitions, extensive gardens and impressive pheasantry will be more than enough to keep grown-ups busy on a day out, while miniature swords and shields give young knights the chance to have fun doing battle.
SoGlos.com loves: The spectacular children’s wooden fort play area which was re-opened this year, complete with slides, a zip wire and towers galore to climb up before declaring you’re ‘king of the castle’.
For more info: See Sudeley Castle and Gardens or visit sudeleycastle.co.uk directly.

Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway

Expect to find: An unparalleled steam and diesel heritage railway, run entirely by volunteers with stations at Toddington, Winchcombe and Cheltenham Racecourse. The steam and diesel engines which call GWR home are stunning, and while adults will enjoy hopping onboard for a nostalgic ride, kids of all ages won’t fail to be impressed either.
SoGlos.com loves: The chance to try your hand at locomotive driving with the Steam Firing & Driving and Diesel Driving Experience courses. Book very early to avoid disappointment, however.

Cotswolds days out 2010

Snowshill Manor

Expect to find: A picture-perfect golden-yellow Cotswold manor house, surrounded by a terraced hillside garden designed as a series of rooms and run on organic principles. While inside an Aladdin’s cave of eccentric objects awaits – including the nation’s most important collection of samurai armour, no less – amassed by artist and craftsman Charles Paget Wade. Children are well catered for with the turf maze and garden quiz, as well as special events through the year.
SoGlos.com loves: Snowshill Manor’s famous cream teas – a quintessentially English treat, and the perfect accompaniment to a day out in the Cotswolds.
