The crowd is always good to and there's a lively atmosphere. My only recommendation is to arrive early. Oh, and I took a first date to one night...

Berkeley Castle will be welcoming families to its special events this Christmas.

Berkeley Castle will once again be the setting for the special Castle by Candlelight events this Christmas, giving visitors an insight into times gone by, being held on the evenings of Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 December 2008.

In what are Berkeley Castle’s best loved and most popular events, guests will see the stunning Norman castle illuminated by candlelight and flickering fires, with traditional decorations and Christmas greenery throughout.

The Great Hall will be home to a huge Christmas tree and plenty of festive cheer – where guests can also join in on the carol singing – while younger visitors are sure to enjoy meeting Father Christmas down in his special grotto.

Organisers say the smell of wood smoke, soft candlelight and imagining all the Christmases which Berkeley Castle has been part of over the centuries, make this a truly memorable and magical festive experience for all the family.

Following a walk around Berkeley Castle, visitors will also fine seasonal refreshments in the tea rooms – rounding off what is sure to be a perfect evening.
