National Star College Magical Summer Fete

11 July – Help local charity the National Star College raise funds for its Star Appeal fund, during their annual fete this summer.

The National Star College promises nothing less than a Magical Summer Fete on Saturday 11 July 2009, when members of the public will be able to join the Cheltenham-based charity’s students and staff to raise money for its £15.4 million campaign, the Star Appeal.

Helping to bring the magical theme of this year’s event to life will be the Newfoundland Dog Rescue team, demonstrating their lifesaving expertise by rescuing volunteers from the college’s lake. Anyone wanting to be rescued by one of the 14-stone gentle giants is asked to raise £50 and there will be 15 dogs in attendance – all specially trained to rescue those in peril in rivers, lakes and the sea.

Thrill seekers will be in their element thanks to a scheduled motorbike trials event, with a special show team jumping over tyres and skips, and performing an array of tricks to wow the crowds.

There will also be a wide variety of traditional fete stalls and games, refreshments, a dog show, raffle and a live band performing. While magicians will also be taking to the stage and entertaining visitors around the event.

Jane Cima from National Star College said: ‘Not only is the National Star College fete an enjoyable day for our students and staff, it also provides the rare opportunity for members of the public to visit the College. Last year’s event attracted over 2,000 people and we are hoping to increase the number in 2009.’

To date just over £12.4 million has been raised towards the charity’s £15.4 million Star Appeal, which is being used to provide specialist education, training, independence and personal development opportunities for young disabled people.
