Winter Wonderland in Gloucester

Event ended

This Christmas, Gloucester will play host to a magical Winter Wonderland complete with ornate Spiegeltent, Santa’s Magical Post Office, fir trees and falling snow, for a festive celebration to remember.

The centrepiece to Gloucester's Winter Wonderland will be the ornate Spiegeltent, taking pride of place in Kings Square.

The Christmas celebrations in Gloucester will be getting underway at the Winter Wonderland, transforming Kings Square until Sunday 3 January 2010.

Expected to attract thousands of families from across Gloucestershire to the city centre, the free Winter Wonderland attraction will feature an array of festive frivolity, with the Santa’s Magical Post Office experience and the decadent Spiegeltent providing two highlights.

There will also be seasonal Christmas market stalls, street performers, children’s activities and festive food and drink to entice a visit throughout the festive season, with falling snow on the hour and fir trees adding to the magical atmosphere, alongside thousands of twinkling lights.

Santa’s Magical Post Office

Delivered to Gloucester from Lapland’s world famous Santa Claus Village is Santa’s Magical Post Office, where boys and girls – providing they have been good all year – will be able to write a letter to the jolly man in red.

Children of all ages will then be able to pop their letters and present wishlists in the post at the free Christmas attraction, before seeing their letters start their journey through a myriad of tubes and disappearing off to the North Pole.

Spiegeltent

The centrepiece to the Winter Wonderland will be the Belgian Spiegeltent – an amazingly ornate travelling ballroom, which will be open as a performance venue and cafe-bar throughout Christmas.

Gloucester’s own Spiegeltent is dressed with stained glass, mirrors, velvet drapes and wooden panelling, with a dancefloor and velvet-lined seating booths.

The Spiegeltent will host a series of family shows, street acts and carol concerts, as well as comedy and music shows. With Christmas party nights featuring cabaret performances, dinner and dancing also taking place in the decadent venue.
