Gloucester Carnival Procession
The Gloucester Carnival procession will be celebrating its 75th anniversary this summer, with a circus theme and a day of free entertainment.
The ever-popular Gloucester Carnival returns in 2011 for its 75th annual procession through the city centre, complete with a flamboyant circus theme, on Saturday 23 July 2011.
Setting off from Gloucester Park as the highlight of a day of free entertainment, schools, community groups, clubs, dance groups and individuals are all expected to be contributing their own entries to the carnival’s colourful parade of floats.
While the traditional procession will be leave Gloucester Park at 3.30pm as it has in previous years, this summer’s parade will travel an amended circuit. Travelling along Park Road, Brunswick Road, Clarence Street, Spread Eagle Road, Northgate Street, across The Cross and down Southgate Street, before turning left onto Spa Road, back to the park.
The Summer in Gloucester event will also include entertainment and live music on a stage constructed in Gloucester Park especially for the occasion from 1pm until 7pm.
Plus, there’s still plenty of time to get involved, and anyone interested in taking part in the carnival procession should contact Gloucester City Council on (01452) 396391 or visit Gloucester Tourist Information Centre for an entry form.
