Summer Reading Challenge in Gloucestershire
News – Roll up, roll up as Gloucestershire’s libraries prepare for a circus-themed Summer Reading Challenge.
The thrills and spills of the big top will be encouraging Gloucestershire libraries’ young visitors to borrow books, when this year’s Summer Reading Challenge gets started on Saturday 16 July 2011.
The challenge is free, and involves kids reading at least six books during the summer holidays – with children rewarded along the way, with medals and certificates to be claimed when the challenge has been successfully completed.
With a fresh ‘Circus Stars’ theme this summer, and events said to be planned at local libraries across Gloucestershire, the scheme is now in its 13th year, with 11,189 children reading a whopping 302,000 library books in the county last year.
The free scheme promises to not only provide a great way to keep children reading while they are on school holidays, but also makes the transition back to school in September a lot easier.
