Summer holidays at Slimbridge
From children’s birdwatching to moth trapping, Slimbridge Wetland Centre will be putting nature lovers of all ages through their paces during the summer holidays.
While Slimbridge Wetland Centre is already a favourite daytrip destination for families from across Gloucestershire, during the summer holidays the children will have even more to capture their imaginations – thanks to a new series of nature-inspired activities.
Moth trapping, children’s birdwatching and the chance to become a Slimbridge biodiversity officer are all on offer throughout the summer break, until Monday 6 September 2010, with no extra charge on top of normal admission.
Held on alternate days, the moth sessions will see visitors examining the many different types of winged creatures caught in the traps overnight in an informative session. While the children’s birdwatching sessions are designed as a fun introduction to the hobby, with guides showing all ages how to spot and identify birds from the South Lake observatory.
Every day families can also try their hands at being a Slimbridge Biodiversity Officer on a specially-design trail which uncovers the secret lives of snails, hidden messages in an owl pellet and how to fish for dragonflies. And, organisers say, there will also be daily craft activities for small visitors to make a pair of binoculars or a bee hotel.
Of course, the trio of summer holiday activities are all on being held top of Slimbridge Wetland Centre’s already overflowing list of attractions – including canoe safaris, the Welly Boot Land children’s play park and Land Rover safaris to name a few. The hardest part will be trying to fit everything in.
Please note, the dates listed here apply to the opening fortnight of this event only. Full dates for this event are Saturday 24 July to Monday 6 September 2010.
