More than 20 British makers have been commissioned to create new work, ranging from kennels and collars, feeding bowls and coats to bird tables and pet shelters, for the Top Dog exhibition at New Brewery Arts in Cirencester – which runs from Saturday 10 January to Saturday 28 February 2009.
With inspiration deriving from domestic pets including dogs, cats, birds, horses and even hamsters, families will be able to take a light-hearted look at some of the elaborate designs for spoilt pets in the enjoyably humorous exhibition which promises to be full of surprises.
Andy Hazell’s ‘Memorial to Laika the Space Dog’, designed to contain the ashes of your favourite deceased pet; Green and Blue’s contemporary bird balls; and Sally Muir’s quirky pet portraits are just some of the creations on display, as well as pet furnishings, handmade dog bowls and knitted horse blankets. And, there will be a photo wall of pets and their owners, which visitors to New Brewery Arts can add to as well.
Plus, on Saturday 31 January 2009, from 3pm, in the New Brewery Art’s Main Gallery there will be a Pet Fashion Show – when visitors can see real cats on the catwalk, dogs with designer leashes, hamsters in contemporary craft houses and stick insects modeling new cages, as well as a puppy in a hand-knitted papoose and the anti-firework dog balaclava invention.
On Saturday 14 February 2009, from 3pm, the Brewery Courtyard will be welcoming Lady Margaret’s Dog Show from the Natural Theatre Company – when visitors will be able to find out if their dog has artistic leanings and can paint, sing or maybe even dance! Lady Margaret will then be judging which of Cirencester’s hounds will be crowned Top Dog 2009.
