Whether you have an interest in art or history, are perhaps a budding collector, or you’re just looking for a novel – not to mention cheap – way to while away some time on a Saturday morning, Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum may have the answer.
On select Saturday mornings, a knowledgeable expert will be giving an arts and crafts talk at 11.30am at the town centre art gallery, free for everyone with an interest.
The guides will be telling visitors more about particular makers, a special piece of furniture, or an interesting aspect on the arts and crafts movement’s ideals each week, with members of the public welcome to drop-in every Sunday or just when a particular topic captures their imagination.
On Saturday 13 March 2010 visitors can find out more about Robert Thompson, the ‘Mouseman’ of Kilburn, in a talk given by by Jan Turner.
On Saturday 20 March 2010 Beryl Elliott will be discussing an assortment of designers and makers.
On Saturday 27 March 2010 Gimson and the Barnsleys will be the subject of the Saturday talk given by Dave Walton.
While on Saturday 10 April 2020 Michael Storm will be giving an insight into defining the arts and crafts movement.
Lasting around 30 minutes, the free talks leave plenty of time for visitors to browse the Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum’s many galleries, including the Arts and Crafts Movement gallery – all of which have free entry all year round.
