Listen to expert lecturer Tim Porter as he talks about medieval England’s last greatest musician, John Taverner, at Sudeley Castle and Garden’s St Mary’s Church.

History buffs with an interest in medieval music will be flocking to Sudeley Castle on Tuesday 15 May 2012, when expert lecturer in music and the middle ages, Tim Porter, will be giving a one-off talk as part of the Queen Katherine Parr Quincentenary Festival 2012.

The talk, entitled ‘John Taverner: Medieval England’s last great musician’, will hope to give visitors an insight into the life and works of the English composer and organist, famous for his religious and vocal compositions that include ‘The Western Wynde’ and ‘Dum Transisset Sabbatum’.

Porter originally trained in music, working as a composer in touring theatre during the 70s and 80s, whilst developing his studies and exploration of medieval Britain alongside.

Highlights of his career include being a Workers’ Educational Association tutor for almost thirty years, a tour guide for specialist history groups as well as a guest lecturer at museums including the Ashmolean in Oxford.

Porter is said to believe in the power of the wider picture and the lively connections that bring a subject to light, meaning those who attend the talk can look forward to what’s expected to be an enthralling and informative morning in the beautiful setting of St Mary’s Church at Sudeley Castle.
