Comprising heritage boat processions, the return of famous boat horse Gypsy Queen, live music, great food and the annual Beer, Cider and Perry Festival, the Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal Festival 2013 is set to be the best yet.

A firm SoGlos favourite on the Gloucestershire events calendar, the Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal Festival will be back for two days of waterside culture and fun – taking place at Over Basin in Gloucester from Saturday 31 August to Sunday 1 September 2013.

The flotilla of heritage boats sailing from Over Basin into Vineyard Hill promises to once again be an anticipated highlight, while the weekend spectacular will also feature a fire brigade display, live music and plenty more fun to be had on the water.

Refreshments will come care of various stalls selling delicious homemade cakes and snacks, while The Wharf House Restaurant will be drawing in hordes of hungry locals with its famous Tapas on the Terrace – including a full selection of tempting Mediterranean treats.

Local craftspeople and producers will be setting up stalls laden with wares for sale, and the beautiful boat horse Gypsy Queen will be making a welcome return – pulling a boat by rope from the towpath as would have been done since the 1700s.

Previous years have also included rope demonstrations, Morris dancing, fairground organs, classic car displays and celebrity guests, with the return of the Beer, Cider and Perry Festival almost certain to keep visitors in high spirits on the Saturday evening.

Entrance to the cultural fest is free of charge and not only offers the chance to explore the important work of a local charity, but also celebrate the great Gloucestershire outdoors, so get the date in your diary and don’t miss this annual waterside wonder.
