The juice was also watered down, and the chutney tray was disappointing. Having said that the Dupiazza was delicious...

The 2008 film season at the Bacon Theatre

27 May – The Bacon Theatre’s fortnightly season of films for 2008 will provide a feast of cinematic treats for Cheltenham’s movie buffs this year, including the popular Cinema Under the Stars screenings returning once again this summer.

Atonement, starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, will be the next film to be shown at the Bacon Theatre in Cheltenham.

For another year running the Bacon Theatre will be hosting a fortnightly film season in Cheltenham, with 2008’s schedule including everything from celluloid classics to contemporary comedies all set to entertain audiences from Tuesday 1 April to Tuesday 10 June 2008.

As well as the all-weather cinema indoors at the Bacon Theatre, for the Open-Air Theatre Festival 2008 a selection of Cinema Under the Stars screenings will also take place in the Tuckwell Amphitheatre for alfresco film-viewing.

If you want to get your fill of all the films on show at the Bacon Theatre a season ticket will cost £24 and gives you unlimited access to all indoors and outdoors films. Individual admission for the films costs £5, or £4 for concessions, for each film shown in the Bacon Theatre; while each film costs £6, and £5 for concessions, in the Tuckwell Amphitheatre.

If you didn’t see the film version of Ian McEwan’s novel Atonement on the big screen first time around, then on Tuesday 27 May 2008 you get the chance to see the hit film in its full glory once again at the Bacon Theatre. Starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy the romantic period drama is rated 15. The film starts at 7.45pm.

On Tuesday 10 June 2008 the British comedy Death at a Funeral, rated 15, will be filling the Bacon Theatre with belly laughs. While a funeral isn’t a likely setting for a dose of humour, with accidental drug-taking, family secrets coming out of the closet and coffin-jumping capers there’s nothing ‘likely’ about the shamelessly slapstick home grown film. The film starts at 7.45pm.

The audience will have their fingers crossed for fair skies on Tuesday 22 July 2008 when Sir Cliff Richard will be making an appearance on The Tuckwell Amphitheatre’s open-air big screen in the classic film Summer Holiday. Rated U, this a fun-filled musical the whole family can enjoy – with a well-stocked picnic making the evening all the more enjoyable. The film starts at 9.15pm.

With hopes for dry skies once again on Tuesday 29 July 2008, the contemporary story of love and cultural divides Brick Lane will be on The Tuckwell Amphitheatre’s open-air big screen. The film version of Monica Ali’s novel is rated 15 and stars Tannishta Chatterjee. The film starts at 9.15pm.
