Film Forum at The Roses

Event ended

The Film Forum screenings at The Roses Theatre feature a diverse choice of monthly cinematic titles, with a chance to informally discuss them in the bar afterwards.

If you want to expand your celluloid repertoire, see something unique on the big screen and informally chew the fat with fellow movie buffs, the Roses Theatre’s Film Forum screenings might be just up your cinematic street.

Led by The Roses’ film programmer Patrick Bliss, whether you loved, loathed or were left ambivalent by the film in question, this is your chance to tell the world – well, the others converging at The Roses’ bar – exactly what’s on your mind. The chance to relax with a glass of something chilled after the film is also quite tempting too.

The Hedgehog

Thursday 27 October 2011

Described as an intelligent and touching adaptation of Muriel Barbery’s international bestseller The Elegance of the Hedgehog, this French film with English subtitles is said to ‘tread a fine line between cynicism and levity’.

The storyline centres on a precocious 11-year-old, Paloma, who decides to end her life by her 12th birthday, until she discovers the grumpy concierge has a secret library and reads Tolstoy to her cat and an unlikely friendship begins.

Melancholia

Thursday 24 November 2011

Controversial director Lars Von Trier is back with an adventurous, psychologically-probing story focuses on two sisters: Justine suffers from depression and sabotages her own wedding reception; whilst Claire is more rational, but is anxious about the impending threat from a newly discovered planet that is on a collision course with earth!

Organisers describe the film as having a ‘rapturous audio and visual style, which is simply breathtaking’, with actress Kirsten Dunst stealing the show.
