The dinosaurs exhibitions is great. My youngest and I are big fans of the series so it was nice to see the models up close...

Film Forum at The Roses

Event ended

The Film Forum screenings at The Roses Theatre feature a diverse choice of monthly cinematic titles, with a chance to informally discuss them in the bar afterwards.

Holy Water will be making a splash at The Roses.
Holy Water will be making a splash at The Roses.

If you want to expand your celluloid repertoire, see something unique on the big screen and informally chew the fat with fellow movie buffs, the Roses Theatre’s Film Forum screenings might be just up your cinematic street.

Led by The Roses’ film programmer Patrick Bliss, whether you loved, loathed or were left ambivalent by the film in question, this is your chance to tell the world – well, the others converging at The Roses’ bar – exactly what’s on your mind. The chance to relax with a glass of something chilled after the film is also quite tempting too.

The Headless Woman

Wednesday 12 May 2010

Lucrecia Martel’s enigmatic Spanish film sees Verónica briefly take her eyes off the road before she hits what she thinks was a dog. She cannot bring herself to look at or report the incident, but later she sees a small handprint on the side of her car.

Organisers say: ‘Filled with ambiguity, this elliptical film implicates us in Verónica’s point of view and with the same state of confusion.’

City of Life and Death

Tuesday 15 June 2010

Chronicling the Japanese invasion of China in World War II, with a specific focus on the ‘Rape of Nanking’ – a six-week period when 300,000 civilians were murdered and countless females violated – this powerful film offers both Chinese and Japanese accounts of the brutality of war and the enduring human instinct for survival.
