Opera lovers across Gloucestershire will be left disappointed at the news that the 2009 to 2010 season from New York’s Metropolitan Opera will be no longer be shown at the Cineworld Cheltenham cinema.

The big screen transmissions offered a popular opportunity for Gloucestershire residents to experience world-class opera in high-definition on their doorstep, but for unforeseen reasons the latest Cineworld screenings have now been cancelled across the UK.

Due to start on Saturday 10 October 2009, the new season transmitted live from the famous opera house in New York was due to include screenings of Tosca, Aida, Turandot and Les Contes D’hoffmann.

Official Cineworld spokesperson Luke Roberts said: ‘Cineworld regret that we will not be screening the new season of the New York Metropolitan Opera.

‘Whilst we apologise for any disappointment and inconvenience this may cause our customers we are excited to announce we are currently in talks with other prestigious Opera houses and look forward to bringing a rich selection of operas from around the globe to Cineworld opera fans.’

See Cineworld Cheltenham for more information about the cinema.
