Films to look forward to in 2010
Whether it’s Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, The A-Team, Sex and the City 2 or even the Karate Kid remake that you can’t wait for in 2010, see SoGlos.com’s selection of top releases coming to a Gloucestershire cinema near you.
From budget-blowing blockbusters to indie film festival winners, 2010 sees some highly-anticipated titles taking to big screen – and we don’t want you to miss out.
There’s a flurry of 80s remakes with The A-Team and Footloose leading the way; animations to make children big and small smile including Toy Story 3 in 3D and the final instalment of the big green ogre in Shrek Forever After; and, who could forget, more Harry Potter to look forward to for starters this year.
And while already packed with titles to get the pulses racing in 2010, SoGlos.com’s guide to the top new films will be updated with even more juicy movie releases coming to cinemas in Gloucestershire throughout the year.
Top films in February 2010

The Wolfman out on Thursday 12 February 2010
After suffering more delays than an airport in high season, the hairy gothic horror remake of The Wolfman will finally be hitting the UK’s big screens in February – just in time for a Valentine’s fright-fest, as long as there’s no full moon. Directed by Joe Johnston, The Wolfman stars the brilliant Benicio Del Toro and Brit actress Emily Blunt.
The Lovely Bones out on Thursday 19 February 2010
You’ve read, and no doubt shed many a salty tear over, Alice Sebold’s best-selling novel, and it’s eventually time to see director Peter Jackson’s eagerly anticipated screen version of the weepy.
Featuring the young star of Atonement, Saorsie Ronan, as the soul watching over her grieving family and the man who murdered her, the film has received mixed reviews in the States for its gentle translation of the gritty novel, but will nonetheless attract huge attention in the UK.
Top films in March 2010

Alice in Wonderland out on Thursday 5 March 2010
Promising outlandish CGI, a colourful cascade of magical characters and a cacophony of crazy costumes – as well as a brand of eccentricity only a Tim Burton film could fulfil – is Alice in Wonderland.
Starring Burton favourite Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, alongside newcomer Mia Wasikowska as Alice, the 2010 interpretation of the Lewis Carroll classic is predicted to be a cinema trip that the adults are more likely to enjoy.
Top films in April 2010

Whip It! out on Thursday 9 April 2010
Juno’s pint-sized Ellen Page stars in the roller derby comedy directed by first-timer Drew Barrymore, for a feisty chick flick on wheels this spring.
Promising to be a feel good funny without the sickly sentimentalism that can stick in the throat, Whip It! will attract masses itching to see what Drew’s like behind the camera if nothing else.
Top films in May 2010

Robin Hood out on Thursday 14 May 2010
One of the most talked about releases of the year sees Ridley Scott direct Russell Crowe in the role of Britain’s favourite outlaw Robin Hood, alongside Matthew McFadyen as the Sherriff of Nottingham and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian.
Whether the grumpy Kiwi will don tights may still be unconfirmed, but one thing’s for sure you won’t be hearing Bryan Adams’ ballads in Ridley Scott’s rip roaring version.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time out on Thursday 21 May 2010
A gym-pumped Jake Gyllenhaal leads the cast in the first videogame movie version of the multi-million pound Prince of Persia series. The film promises high-adrenaline action by the bucket load, and legions of game-playing cinema-goers all queuing to see the adventures.

Sex and the City 2 out on Thursday 28 May 2010
More shoes, shopping and sizzling NYC shenanigans ensue for Carrie and co in the second installment of the Sex and City movie franchise. Spoilers aside, expect to see cameos from Penelope Cruz, Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand – with toothy Southern grins from Miley Cyrus even predicted to crop up.
Top films in June 2010
Footloose out on Thursday 18 June 2010
From High School Musical to last year’s Fame, it seems today’s cinema goers can’t get enough fancy foot work. Footloose, sans Kevin Bacon it is rumoured, is one of the latest 80s hits to be brought bang up to date – with shimmying and shaking expected from a cast lead by Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford. Fingers crossed for a Flash Dance rendition.

The Karate Kid out on Thursday 18 June 2010
More travelling back in time to 1984 comes in the form of high-kicking Jackie Chan and Will Smith’s nipper Jaden – who will be teaming up for this summer’s family remake of The Karate Kid, set in China.
Top films in July 2010
Shrek Forever After out on Thursday 2 July 2010
Vowed to be the very last time we’ll be seeing the green ogre take the big screen is Shrek Forever After, hitting cinemas in time for the summer holiday rush.

Toy Story 3 out on Thursday 23 July 2010
Also entertaining the little ones – and bigger ones too – will be Buzz and Woody, back for more Pixar adventures in the 3D animated Toy Story 3.

The A Team out on Thursday 30 July 2010
B.A. Baracus, Face, Murdock and Hannibal are back – but not as you might recognise them, even without the masks – in this summer’s movie remake of The A Team, with Jessica Biel.
Starring Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Patrick Wilson and cage fighting Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson as B.A., everyone’s favourite industrious band of outlawed vets are framed for a crime they didn’t commit, in Iraq this time around.
Top films in August 2010

The Last Airbender out on Thursday 13 August 2010
M Night Shyamalan’s action version of the anime adventure sees Aang, a 12-year-old successor to a long line of Avatars, try to stop the Fire nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations – in the first part of the fantasy trilogy.
The Expendables out in August 2010, with specific date to be announced
An adrenaline-fuelled must for action film fans this summer is The Expendables, starring Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, and old rival Arnold Schwarzenegger, not to mention Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jet Li and Jason Statham, in a story about mercenaries sent on a mission to terminate a South American warlord.
Top films in September 2010

The Other Guys out on Thursday 2 September 2010
Following a long (and hopefully hot) summer of film releases, September isn’t looking like it will be the most inspiring of months cinematically-speaking, with the exception perhaps of The Other Guys.
Mark Wahlberg will be donning a police uniform again, but this time with funnyman Will Ferrell as his partner in crime-fighting, in the cop comedy of year.
Top films in October 2010

Mr. Nice out on Thursday 8 October 2010
Welsh wonder Rhys Ifans takes on the role of Howard Marks in the British biopic about the infamous drug smuggler turned festival speaker.

Jackass 3D out on Thursday 15 October 2010
While old enough to know better now perhaps, the Jackass (ahem) lads are back on the big screen and are offering audiences, who are also probably old enough to know better, the chance to see their new – predictably lethal – pranks played out in full three-dimensional glory.
Top films in November 2010
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 out on Thursday 19 November 2010
The wait will be over (well, almost) for the final instalment of the Harry Potter saga – which sees Harry, Ron and Hermione go in search of Horcruxes to defeat Voldemort away from relatively comfy surrounds of Hogwarts.
And while JK Rowling’s readers have known the eventual fate of Harry and his magical friends for a few years now, film fans will have to wait until July 2011 for Part 2 of the Deathly Hallows – the final, final part of the story.
Top films in December 2010
Gulliver's Travels – out on Thursday 22 December 2010
With Jack Black taking the larger than life role of the travel-writing giant, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that Gulliver’s Travels is set to be a firm family favourite for the festive season.
And with the island of Lilliput’s little inhabitants including Catherine Tate and James Corden there are big hopes for belly laughs from the rest of the cast too.
