The Dean Heritage Centre is appealing to the public to find those who knew screenwriter and journalist Dennis Potter, to take part in interviews and offer memorabilia that will form part of its upcoming Potter exhibition.
Whether you went to school or a social club with the man behind BBC television series The Singing Detective, or played an extra in one of his films, the Dean Heritage Centre would like to hear about it.
It is also looking for images from Potter’s life such as photos from his childhood or school, brass Berry Hill Band times or even on set during one of his films. It hopes that these will all become part of a living legacy for the local star.
Phillippa Turner, centre archivist, said: ‘The living memories of local people need to be preserved as an alternative way of accessing the history and heritage of the Forest of Dean.’
The Forest of Dean attraction is also appealing for 1950s-style furniture to dress the upcoming exhibition, such as a chest of drawers, bookcase or a rug.
While the exhibition itself will contain two different phases: the first, a display of Potter-related artefacts, and the second, a replica living room – both of which aim to give visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the world of this local legend.
If you have any items or information that may be of use to the Dean Heritage Centre, contact Phillippa Turner on (01594) 822170 or email phillippa@deanheritagecentre.com.
