On Monday 3 September 2012, the eco warriors of Gloucestershire will have the chance to not only see the latest release from Cheltenham-based filmmaker Jack Guest, but also get answers to any burning questions from renowned British environmentalist Jonathon Porritt.
Said to be a sequel of sorts to Al Gore’s documentary of the same name, An Inconvenient Truth 2 is an eco-documentary about the world getting better, whilst proposing that society already has answers to climate change, featuring positive solutions already implemented in Sweden, the leading EU country for renewable energy.
The documentary sees local boy Jack travel to the Nordic country to speak with politicians, scientists and entrepreneurs, and also meet with families committed to reducing their impact on the environment – featuring sun-, wind- and water-powered housing areas, and biogas, a fuel created from human waste that powers everything from cars to cooking.
He said: ‘In no uncertain terms we face a huge problem on planet earth and An Inconvenient Truth 2 looks at turning that problem into an opportunity.
Like Al Gore, I agree that by acting now we can prevent disastrous climate change from taking place, and can create more wealth, health, prosperity and happiness by doing so.
‘My film gives a positive message that the solutions for a stable climate do exist and they can enrich rather than restrict our daily lives.’
Filmgoers can then look forward to a post-screening question and answer session with both Jack Guest and green issues advocate Jonathon Porritt, plus the opportunity to meet with representatives from various local green organisations, including Transition Town Cheltenham, Vision 21 and the Gloucestershire Green Party.
