7 unmissable films to see outdoors in Gloucestershire

From wizards and ghostbusters to magical musicals, discover seven unmissable film screenings to enjoy in the great Gloucestershire outdoors.

1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone


Cheltenham Ladies’ College welcomes witches, wizards and muggles along for a magical evening when it screens Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on Saturday 26 August 2017.

The first film in the phenomenally popular franchise, audiences can join Harry, Hermione and Ron on their adventures during their first year at Hogwarts.


2. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Prepare to sing along when family favourite Chitty Chitty Bang Bang flies into The Cotswold Motor Hub on Saturday 5 August 2017 for a fun-filled drive-in movie night.

Starring Dick Van Dyke, the fantasy musical tells the story of an eccentric professor who turns a broken down car into a magical vehicle for his children, something which leads to a great adventure!


3. Fight Club

Cult Screens will be showing Brad Pitt on the big screen during its open-air screening of cult classic Fight Club, taking place at Sandford Parks Lido on Wednesday 20 September 2017.

The award-winning movie tells the story of an insomniac office worker who meets devil-may-care Tyler. Together, the two get involved with dark behaviour when they form an underground fight club, which leads to them spiralling out of control.


4. Mamma Mia

Unleash your inner ‘Dancing Queen’ during an alfresco screening of Mamma Mia on Cowley Manor’s top lawn on Saturday 26 August 2017, offering an unmissable night for ABBA fans and musical lovers.

Featuring plenty of iconic hits, the smash-hit musical follows a bride-to-be who tries to discover the identity of her father before her wedding day.


5. Casablanca


Pack your tissues for The Cotswold Motor Hub’s drive-in move night, showing timeless romantic drama Casablanca on Saturday 30 September 2017.

One of the greatest love stories of all time, the film stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman as Rick and Isla, old flames who meet again in Casablanca, something which leads to complications and tough choices.

Promising action and laughter aplenty, settle down at Cheltenham Ladies’ College and prove you ‘ain’t afraid of no ghost’, during a screening of 80s classic, Ghostbusters on Friday 25 August 2017.

Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver, the film follows three former parapsychology professors who set up a new business to rid New York of paranormal happenings.


7. Back to the Future


Hop on your DeLorean and zoom along to Sandford Parks Lido on Thursday 21 September 2017 to see sci-fi comedy, Back to the Future.

The high school movie follows Marty McFly who is accidently sent back into the past in a DeLorean time machine. During his time in the 50s, Marty must make sure his parents meet and fall in love, in order to keep his future life intact.
