Running alongside the anticipated Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal Festival, the restored Over Basin in Gloucester will also be the setting for a Beer, Cider and Perry Festival on the weekend of Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 September 2012.
From 11am until late into the evening on the Saturday, and from 11am to 4pm on the Sunday afternoon, visitors will find a range of delicious local and artisan drinks on offer.
Severn Cider, based in Newnham, will be offering up its traditional cider and perry. The company’s fruit is grown in orchards which have never been sprayed or fertilised, with traditional varieties offering a vintage quality of fruit.
Wye Valley is Herefordshire’s leading brewer of cask conditioned real ales, meanwhile, which produces a range of beers including long-standing favourites Butty Bach, HPA and Wye Valley Bitter. Try a pint or two for yourself at the festival.
Richard & Jenni Elgie's famous fruit juices are also sure to be a hit, produced on Hilter Fruit Farm just down the road in Oxenhall, with their apple juice pressed from prime English sweet apples.
Plus, a particular highlight for 2012 will be a live music set by Herefordshire-based band ChordRush on the Saturday evening – playing a carefully chosen mixture of jazz, funk and Latin-influenced numbers on The Wharf House’s terrace.
The Wharf House’s famous Tapas on the Terrace menu will also be available, giving festival-goers the chance to enjoy an array of freshly prepared Mediterranean treats.
Previous year’s menus have included delights such as carpaccio of Herefordshire beef with horseradish, rocket and parmesan; Cornish sardines in tomato and basil; pepper boats with Mediterranean vegetables and hummus; and a mozzarella, avocado and grapefruit salad.
