Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall supports Kindness & Co's charity scheme

Prior to his talk at Cheltenham Literature Festival, celebrity chef and campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall visited Kindness & Co to show his support for the independent café business and its charity scheme.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall gave Cheltenham’s Kindness & Co the seal of his approval when the River Cottage founder visited the independent café ahead of his appearance at the Literature Festival.

The celebrity chef and television personality popped into the café to sample its new range of healthy cakes and chat to the team about the business’ ethical ethos.

Kindness & Co shares the same food philosophy of using natural unprocessed ingredients as Fearnley-Whittingstall, who was in town to discuss his new book Much More Veg at his SoGlos sponsored event at Cheltenham Literature Festival on Monday 9 October 2017.

Staff explained Kindness & Co’s Pay It Forward scheme, which enables customers to pre-pay for meals that can be given to anyone they feel is in need of a wholesome meal, with Hugh kindly donating to support the initiative.

Since the scheme started, the business has been able to help the local community and those in need from farther afield by teaming up with Ethiopiaid to assist street children in Addis Ababa.

Ruby Shepherd, head barista, who runs the scheme commented: ‘In the beginning we had to search out individuals to give them meals but the word has spread and we have people coming to the café to see if there are any pay it forwards available.

‘We are delighted to be able to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Having a sense of purpose in life makes getting up in the morning even more worthwhile.’
