Harrogate Sulphur Soap review

Product of the week – Sulphur is an ancient ingredient which promises modern consumers smooth radiant skin, and thankfully the new products from the Harrogate Sulphur Soap Company smell rather nice too.

The health-conscious have been flocking to Britain’s first health spa in Harrogate for centuries, with everyone from royalty to literary figures lapping-up the benefits of sulphur-enriched water to cure an array of ailments. But rather than trekking to the ‘Stinking Well’ like the Queen of Russia and Charles Dickens would have, today’s sensitive-skinned consumers have an all together more modern alternative.

Harrogate Sulphur Soap Company’s new range of soaps offer all the skincare benefits of the ancient mineral – such as a smooth, glowing complexion – in a rather more convenient package than making the journey up north. And while the historic well may reek of rotten eggs, the soaps are delicately scented in a range of refreshing aromas – including Citrus Spring, English Garden and Victorian Rose.

Containing hand-drawn sulphur water, vitamin E and essential oils, the bars of soap are a natural alternative to the chemical treatments used for skin conditions such as eczema, acne and psoriasis. But the anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties mean the soap is also suitable for all skin types.

Washing twice daily with the bars left our tester with squeaky clean pores and supple skin, not to mention the question ‘where can I get more?’

Harrogate Sulphur Soap Company’s soap bars cost from £2.95 to £3.95 and are available by calling 01423 875 750. A range of lotions, washes, bath crystals, moisturisers, shampoos and creams are also available.
