Gloucester Festival 2007
21 July to 5 August – The 14 day Gloucester Festival 2007 may not have gone according to plan, but there are still some events and activities scheduled to please all ages.
Every summer the city of Gloucester pulls out all the stops to make the annual Gloucester Festival a fortnight to remember. But widespread flooding and water shortages have meant that the 2007 celebration has been halted with cancellations and postponements galore across Gloucester.
Please contact the organisers directly to confirm whether the events listed have not been cancelled due to the flooding, information published is correct at the time of publishing, but is subject to change.

Gloucester carnival procession is postponed to a date yet to be announced. Check SoGlos.com regularly to find out when the carnival procession will go ahead.
Wilson’s Family Funfair is currently not in operation due to local flooding at Gloucester Park.
The art exhibition Here and There was due to run for the duration of the festival at Gloucester City Museum and Art Gallery and Gloucester Central Library, from 10am to 5pm. Both of these venues are closed to the public for the time being however.

Gloucester Park was due to play host to The BBC’s Many Cultures Day, but this has been cancelled due to flooding.

Gloucester Festival 2007’s Storytelling Day being held at The Gloucester City Museum and Art Gallery at 11.30am and 3pm, as well as outdoors on the Storytelling Bench in Greyfriars at 1pm, is cancelled.
Heartbreak Productions’ open air performance of The Merchant of Venice at Llanthony Priory is cancelled.

As part of the Summer in the City celebration, King’s Square was due will come alive with the sounds of live music from local bands, with face painting for the children and a host of shops staying open until 7pm. For more information see Shop ‘til you drop.
For a more active evening, the Severn Athletics Club will be holding their Seven Mile Road Race. Starting from The Pilot Inn in Hardwicke at 7.30pm, go along to cheer on the runners or take your trainers and join the race if you’re feeling fit. Signing-up costs £3.50 in advance or more on the night – for more information please contact the Severn Athletics Club.

A brand new graffiti wall due to be officially launched at Gloucester Skatepark has been postponed to a date still unconfirmed.

If you’re out hunting bargains, don’t be surprised to see some unusual faces in The Mall in Gloucester, as the Mr Jinks Punch and Judy Show is being performed at 10.30am, 12 noon, 2 and 3pm. A perfect interlude for entertaining the children when they get fed-up being dragged around the shops.
There will also be a free two-wheel workshop at Gloucester Park from 2 to 4pm, from Severn Valley Cycling. This event is confirmed.

Get ‘Wild ‘n the Park’ from 2 until 9pm, with a day of live music, extreme activities, live DJs, sports and dance for those aged 12 to 18. Young people from Echoes Youth Club and the Chequers Bridge Youth Centre have organised the line-up of events, which are all free. This event has been postponed.

And as part of the Summer in the City celebrations, King’s Square will also be hosting live music from local bands, with face painting for the children and a host of shops staying open until 7pm. For a dose of humour, head to Gloucester Docks where free Comedy Street Shows will be taking place at 7 and 8.30pm. Or for more side-splitting entertainment, The Big Laugh Café Outdoors will be hosting an alfresco evening of comedy at the picnic area opposite Fosters on the Docks, with comedians Ian Moore, Ben Norris and Kevin McCarthy. Tickets for this event cost between £8 and £10, bookable from Gloucester Guildhall. This event is confirmed.

A Children’s and Young People’s art workshop is being held from 10am to 12noon and 2 to 4pm at St. Nicholas Church on Westgate Street. Call (01452) 397479 for more information. This event is confirmed.
From 2pm to 5pm at Gloucester Park, Gloucestershire’s Severn Sound Dance 1000 will get into full swing. Watch dance groups from across the county showcasing their skills in the afternoon or show you’ve got rhythm by taking part in the taster sessions. This event is confirmed.
Ask anyone and they will say that the official finale to the Gloucester Festival always proves unforgettable as a magical firework display gets the crowds oohing and aahing at Gloucester Park. From 7.30pm there will be a line-up of live entertainment, with the colourful display blasting off at 9.30pm. This event is confirmed.

Jamaican Independence Day will be celebrated in style this year, as Gloucester Park hosts a kite festival from 2pm. While details are still to be confirmed, it is expected to be a spectacular way to round-up Gloucester Festival 2007. This event is subject to confirmation.
If you have finally gathered up enough courage, it is also your last chance to climb aboard the rides at the fairground, which will be packing-up and leaving Gloucester Park until next year.
