A Free Grand Day Out in Tewkesbury
20 July – Marking the first anniversary of the 2007 flooding in Tewkesbury, Over the Rainbow’s A Free Grand Day Out is set to be a popular event for families across Gloucestershire.
A Free Grand Day Out is set to be a sure fire hit with families across Gloucestershire on Sunday 20 July 2007, when Tewkesbury marks the anniversary of the floods in true style while showing the world it is very much back in business.
Organised by Over the Rainbow, an initiative established after the floods, the special event will take place across Tewkesbury and include a whole host of activities.
The day will kick off at 9.30am with an act of commemoration at Tewkesbury Abbey, followed by a 10am service which everyone is welcome to attend.
The family activities officially get underway at 11am when visitors will be invited to wander around and meet the dragon puppets, marvel at the stilt walkers and see Barnaby Bear. Magic tricks will be provided by Gracie Spoon while storytelling will be performed by Alchemy Entertainments. Andy Clay and Thomas Trilby will also be in attendance, showing off their juggling, plate spinning and uni-cycling skills. Visitors will also find market stalls touting their wares, as well as bar for refreshments.
A ‘Hug the Abbey’ is planned for 12pm, when visitors will be invited to say ‘cheese’ for a special aerial photo which is planned to mark the occasion. Then, at 2pm in what is an exceptional line-up of live acts, The Happy Accidents, My Generation and Show of Hands will all be performing in a concert in the Pageant Meadow.
A ‘Concert for the Teenagers’ is also planned to take place at 7.15pm, with a line-up of acts in the form of Which Way Up, Subkicks and none other than Spunge all set to play. Last but not least, a grand fireworks finale will finish the event in a spectacular fashion from 10.30pm, when visitors will see a rainbow of colours appear over Tewkesbury Abbey.
