Gloucester Guildhall will once again be flinging open its doors for this year’s Underground Festival, taking place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 September 2012.
Promising to showcase the best emerging talent from the UK and beyond, this will be the festival’s third year running, and is, like last year, free of charge for all to attend.
So the few extra pounds saved on the ticket price this year can pay for a round of drinks or even a little merchandise from your favourite band, perhaps.
Across three stages over the weekend: the DIY main, BBC Introducing and the Risk and Consequence stage, gig-goers can expect to find more than 30 electro, pop, indie and rock bands providing a melting pot of music for all to enjoy.
Headlining the DIY main stage on Saturday will be Bastille, the electronic vision of frontman Dan Smith, which is responsible for the massive pop anthem ‘Flaws’.
Following Bastille on the main stage will be Birmingham scenesters Peace, hot off the back of supporting Mystery Jets on tour, sun-kissed noise from fellow Brummies Swim Deep, guitar-pop from The Struts, and Australian indie-rockers Last Dinosaurs – all beginning with music from Hey Sholay and Binary.
Sunday is set to be a rockier affair, with a headline slot set to come from Hertfordshire-based Lower Than Atlantis, after just signing to Island Records ahead of its first major release later in the year.
Visitors to Gloucester Guildhall can also look forward to seeing Sunday support from Canterbury, Don Bronco, drum ‘n’ bass Proxies, US rockers The Dangerous Summer, All Of This, Transit and Harbour.
As the festival continues its association with BBC Introducing, the stage this year will be graced by the likes of Sons and Lovers, Bluebell, Venice, The Social Club and a host of local bands yet to be announced.
While the Risk and Consequence stage will maintain its eclectic programme with Glastonbury Festival Emerging Talent competition 2011 winners Treetop Flyers, The Night, LEXY, Fear of Men, Cut Ribbons and more set to play over the weekend.
With an impressive line-up, a lively atmosphere and gratis entry, there will only be one destination for new music fans from across Gloucestershire when the Underground Festival is in town.
