Spiers and Boden play Gloucester Guildhall
Melodeon, concertina, fiddle and guitar will be the order of the day, when award-winning folk duo Spiers and Boden play Gloucester Guildhall.
In a particular coup for Gloucester Guildhall, folk duo Spiers and Boden is set to play a one-off gig at the city centre venue on Friday 18 May 2012.
Described by The Guardian as ‘the finest instrumental duo on the traditional scene’, and twice winners of the BBC Radio 2 folk award for Best Duo, Spiers and Boden have made the genre of spontaneous, punky English folk ‘very much their own stomping ground’ – with no less than six studio albums behind them.
While John and Jon are well known for their major roles in the world famous ‘folk juggernaut’ Bellowhead, they’re now in their umpteenth year of fruitful collaboration as Spiers and Boden – and describe themselves as having graduated from the dangerous new kids on the block, to being a solid headlining mainstay on the folk scene.
Musicianship and inventiveness is said to be a given, with the lads now increasingly focusing on delivering big, thumping nights out with showmanship, humour and raw stomping energy.
Delivering a distinctive sound, John plays melodeon and concertina, while Jon plays fiddle and guitar while stamping the rhythm on a stomp box.
If you fancy a fine toe-tapping evening of folk, be sure to pen this late spring highlight in your diary.
