Local arts centre Taurus Crafts will be hosting its third annual Blues Festival on Saturday 23 June 2012, with a whole host of great bands lined up for the nine-hour extravaganza, and camping for those who can’t quite make it home.
Top of the bill will be Simon ‘Honeyboy’ Hickling, hailed as one of the best harpists in the land with three decades of touring and recording under his belt. Music fans can look forward to hearing some harp-driven R&B with his skin-tight band and witty repartees.
Big band fans are sure to enjoy the sounds of Steve Roux and the Brass Knuckle Band, following their stand-out festival performances in 2011. Plus, Tommy Allen, the man Paul Jones described as ‘one of the most talented songwriter/guitarists to emerge from Britain in a long time’ is also set to storm the stage.
Festival goers can look forward to seeing Babajack, who have been nominated for Best Acoustic Act at the 2012 British Blues Awards, the return of Mumbo-Jumbo to the festival stage, and kicking the proceedings off at 2pm will be Ned Evett – the ‘King of the glass necked guitar’.
Organisers promise to cover the whole breadth of blues, from acoustic to rock, whilst offering an array of fabulous food and drink from artisan producers, so blues fans better book now for what’s expected to be a musical highlight of the summer – and one of the best Forest of Dean events of the year.
