Alternative music fans looking to treat their ears to a new and unusual sound might just enjoy Seckou Keita’s upcoming performance at Tewkesbury’s Roses Theatre, getting underway on Wednesday 3 October 2012.
Hailing from West Africa, Keita is said to respect a musical tradition of the Mandinka Empire that stretches back to the 13th century, and is an established contemporary master of the kora – a 21-stringed harp – having experimented with and played the instrument since the age of 14.
Organisers said: ‘With his feet firmly rooted in the 21st century and the identity of his heritage clear, Seckou is keen to experiment and develop fresh ideas.
‘2012 brings a new album Distance, due for release in September, and a brand new show featuring an exciting seven-piece band.’
Hoping to provide a truly magical musical experience for the Roses Theatre audience, filled with groundbreaking ideas, the ‘Hendrix of the kora’, along with his special guests, are sure to impress on the night.
