Fans of French swing will be immersed in the street sounds of Paris on Friday 7 September 2012, when Gloucestershire-based jazz ensemble Swing from Paris hosts its anticipated debut album launch party at Stroud Brewery.
The local quartet, comprising of Andy Bowen and Andy Wood on guitars, Fenner Curtis on violin and Steve Laming on double bass, is said to be heavily influenced by the music of revolutionary guitarist Django Reinhardt and virtuoso violinist Stephane Grappelli.
Its debut album Quasimodo, however, features 13 tracks from different composers spanning more than 50 years of jazz, all given the Swing from Paris treatment of fresh melodies, arrangements and improvisation – from the early swing of Fats Waller and Duke Ellington, through to the bop of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie.
So to celebrate Quasimodo’s release, the jazz collective will be performing the whole album live to an audience at Stroud Brewery, complete with beer and great food.
What’s more, the band has pledged that for every album purchased on the night, it will pay for a pint for the lucky customer.
